Teaching Beginning Keyboard at the Organ - Year 1

A presentation of how beginning keyboard skills can be developed at the organ using Discover the Basics. This four-volume series of introductory, first-year, keyboard study develops the skills of music reading, keyboard coordination, musicianship, and a basic knowledge of the four families of organ tone, stop names, and registrational practices. The session also will contain successful ideas for recruiting new organ students.

Leupold, Wayne B.M. and B.A. "with distinction" from Valparaiso University, Indiana; M.M. in organ performance from Syracuse University, New York; pursued additional organ study at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. He is president of Wayne Leupold Editions, Inc. which specializes in publishing organ music and organ-teaching materials. His most recent article, "The Performance Practices Relative to the Organ in the Romantic Era" appears in the two-volume Groves Handbook of Performance Practices. In October 1996 he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Valparaiso University, the highest honor given by the Valparaiso University Alumni Association "…in recognition of significant personal and professional accomplishments."
