Hope Davis

Hope Alysia Davis, originally from Jamaica, West Indies completed her general education and music undergraduate preparation in her native land. After migrating to the USA in the late 1980's, she earned the Masters of Arts Degree in Choral and Instrumental Music Education from the University of Wyoming; the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Louisiana State University in Organ Performance and Music Composition; and the PhD degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Vocal/Choral Music Education.

Prior to coming to Imperial Valley College, Dr. Davis served as Chair of Music, Director of Concert Choirs, and Associate Professor of Music Education at Livingstone College for 2 years. Before that, she served as Chair of Music and Fine Arts, Director fo Choral Activities, College Organist, and Associate Professor of Music at Talladega College for 7 years. She also worked for 1 year at Baldwin-Wallace College as Assistant Professor of Music Education and Co-Director of Stage-Show Choirs. In addition. Davis has a wealth of experiences serving as Choral Music Educator at many high schools throughout the southeastern states of the USA, and serving as Choral Clinician for various high schools, churches, and community arts development projects in the USA, the Caribbean, and in Namibia, Africa. Hope has had the distinguished honor of participating in an Intensive Choral Conducing seminar with Dr. Charlene Archibeque at San Jose State University (San Jose, CA)

Davis' performing engagements include many organ and voice recitals at prestigious venues in the USA, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. In the USA, a few of the venues at which she has given recitals include Washington National Cathedral (Washington, D.C), St. Thomas Fifth Avenue Church (New York, NY), St. Patrick's Cathedral (New York, NY), Rust College (Holly Springs, MS), and the University of Wyoming Alumni Series (Laramie, WY). Hope Davis has been selected to perform in the New England States Regional Organ Convention in Rhode Island in June 2007. She is one of 3 organists so selected. The other 2 performers are world reknowned "organ greats", Dame Gillian Weir (top European organist), and Paul Jacobs (American Star Organist, Chair of Julliard Organ Department).

Dr. Davis has been nominated to Who's Who Among American Teachers repeatedly from 1999 through 2006. She has also been the recipient of many citational plaques and awards for outstanding service in music teaching and performance.
