Rehearsal Techniques for Children's Choirs

(Rehearsal ideas for choirs two years of age through the sixth grade.)

Jo Deen (Jody) Blaine Davis is Director of Music Ministries at The Congregational Church in New Canaan, Connecticut. She directs the six choirs, plays for services, and oversees all musical events. The music program includes singing choirs for all ages, beginning at two years old. Dr. Davis' focus is to teach the theology of the church through music in an environment that is safe, informal, educational, and enjoyable. She includes music theory, solfege, vocal techniques, and rhythm exercises while presenting sacred repertoire.

Much of Dr. Davis' career has been in Houston, Texas where she was Assistant Organist/Choirmaster at St. Martin's Episcopal Church and Choirmaster/Organist at Central Presbyterian Church. For nearly twenty years she was Professor of Music at San Jacinto College South, where she taught music theory, sight-singing/ear training, and organ. A native of Missouri, Dr. Davis received the Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Kansas. All degrees are in organ performance. Dr. Davis has played concerts throughout Great Britain, Italy, France, and Germany as well as the Washington National Cathedral in the United States.
